Santa Clara County Picks Up Former San Jose Medical Center Property
The former San Jose Medical Center property in downtown San Jose recently traded hands in a $24 mil transaction. The property covers 13.4 acres at 725 East Santa Clara St, a short distance west of the confluence of the I-280 and 101 Fwy. The property was purchased by Santa Clara County on an as-is basis.
The County plans to demolish roughly 300k sf of existing medical buildings. One of the buildings on the site, a freestanding office building of roughly 30k sf that currently serves as medical offices, will be left for the County to use as an urgent care clinic.
Preliminary future development plans for the site consist of the potential expansion of medical and mixed-use, to include expansion of the urgent care center for minor emergencies and a mix of housing, retail and medical offices. The San Jose Medical Center closed just over five years ago, in December 2004.
